Grand Mosque of Bandung
The Grand Mosque of Bandung renovated and remodeled several times was originally a wooden structure constructed in 1812. Exploring Indonesian Culture at Saung Angklung Udjo
Saung Angklung Udjo is a cultural venue offering the traditional performance using Angklung. Angklung is a musical instrument made of bamboo tubes played together to create melodies. Apart from the Angklung performance the venue also offers puppet show and mask dance.
The venue also has a handicraft center where one can shop for bamboo products to take back home as souvenirs. And musical instrument workshop where you can learn more about Angklung. The restaurant here offers a diverse choice of local delicacies. A visit to the Saung Angklung Udjo is a great way to experience Indonesian culture and heritage.
One of the most interesting places to visit near Bandung is Kawah Putih, a striking crater lake located at around 2300 meters above sea level. There’s no record of volcanic activity in the area since 1600. The altitude makes the air quite chilly – so consider taking along a jacket when visiting. The area has been opened to visitors since 1987, yet it’s managed to retain its charms and it is not crowded with tourists.
The surroundings of the crater lake are nicely forested. There is a path that leads all the way to the lake – though since it is sulphuric, the smell can be quite strong. It takes up to two hours to drive from Bandung to Kawah Putih. Depending on the traffic which can be quite congested in the region.
Tangkuban Perahu is a volcano north of Bandung, a couple of hours drive from the city. It is a popular tourist destination and a perfect day trip from the city of Bandung. Tangkuban Perahu is a volcano with three craters namely Kawah Ratu (Queen Crater), Kawah Domas (Domas Crater), and Kawah Upas (Upas Crater). Out of the three only Kawah Domas (“Domas Crater”) is accessible to the tourists.
Visitors can hike to the edge of the Kawah Domas crater for amazing views of the hot geysers and fumes arising out of the crater. Tangkuban Perahu means an overturned boat which is named after the fascinating shape of the Mt. Tangkuban Perahu. There is an interesting legend of Sangkuriang which explains the creation of the Mt. Tangkuban Perahu.
Art Deco Architecture
The city of Bandung has a well-preserved heritage of the numerous Art Deco buildings. Most of which are from the Dutch colonial era. The Jalan Asia-Africa street has the largest collection of Art Deco buildings like Prama Grand Preanger, Societeit Concordia, and Savoy Homann Hotel are exemplary Art Deco architecture.
Bumi Siliwangi formerly Villa Isola was built in 1930 by the Java-born Dutch architect Wolff Schoemaker. It is one of the most photographed and prominent examples of Art Deco architecture. Villa Isola is now a part of the Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI).
Bandung’s Chinatown is located in the Jalan Kelenteng Street close to ‘Satya Budhi Temple’, the oldest and largest Chinese Temple in Bandung. The place decorated with lanterns, Chinese calligraphies, and traditional Chinese house style has an authentic Chinese touch to it.
There are numerous food stalls where you can buy Chinese or authentic Sundanese food. Apart from the food, you can also find clothes, souvenirs, and home decor items. There is also a museum where you can learn more about the history of Chinatown through a wonderful collection of vintage Chinese items and infographics.

Malabar Tea Plantation is located in Pangalengan, 45 km south of Bandung. A visit to the sprawling tea plantation, the undulating green hills, and the natural landscape is perfect for a laidback holiday away from the bustling city.
